A project to more than double the size of a north-side library and add activity rooms is underway.
A $1.1 million building permit has been issued to Pima County for work on the Flowing Wells Public Library, .
The library, which opened in 2008, will be expanded from its current 5,000 square feet to 13,000 square feet and will include additions such as a large multipurpose room, a children’s programming room and study rooms.
The library will also feature more public computers, an outdoor patio with Wi-Fi and an updated collection.
While the library is closed, the Ellie Towne Flowing Wells Community Center, , will offer extended hours for its computer lab — Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The library is expected to reopen by the end of 2018.
Other construction projects around town include:

• 1SC Partners LLC got a $731,000 permit to make upgrades at , for the pending arrival of overflow employees from Caterpillar’s Surface Mining & Technology Division while its new headquarters is built just west of Interstate 10, off Cushing Street.
