Tommy Lloyd¡¯s Team USA survived its first bout of adversity in the FIBA U19 World Cup on Friday, in a quarterfinal game at Lausanne, Switzerland.
The win moved USA (5-0) into a semifinal game Saturday at 11 a.m. against New Zealand (4-1), which beat Switzerland 84-70 on Friday. Germany (5-0) and Slovenia (3-2) will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday in the other semifinal game.

While USA jumped on Canada early, Pacific-bound freshman Jaion Pitt stole an errant pass from USA forward Tyran Stokes in the final seconds of the first half, then hit a half-court buzzer beater to cut USA¡¯s lead to 61-54 at halftime.
Canada carried the momentum into the second half, outscoring USA 15-3 immediately after halftime, and the game changed leads frequently throughout the third quarter before USA held the lead for the final seven minutes.

ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ freshman Koa Peat fouled out 46 seconds into the fourth quarter, when USA trailed 80-79, before the Americans took the lead for good two minutes later.

Peat finished with on just 3-for-13 shooting but collected 11 rebounds. BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa and Louisville guard Mikel Brown led USA, with Dybantsa collecting 22 points and four rebounds and Brown scoring 20 points while dishing eight assists.
Jordan Charles, a 2026 guard now playing for Scottsdale Bella Vista, led Canada with 19 points and five assists while South Florida freshman forward Tristan Beckford has 16 points and six assists.
Canada shot 45.7% from the field and hit 11 of 27 3-point shots while USA shot 42.5% overall and made 8 of 16 3-pointers.
