Marana Unified School District teachers likely won’t see raises after voters there shot down a $2 million budget override in Tuesday’s election.
Proposition 456 was trailing by a margin of 38 to 62 percent after the vast majority of ballots were counted as of 7:20 p.m. There is still an unknown number of provisional and uncounted ballots that will not be calculated until at least Wednesday, though not enough to change the outcome of that proposition.
Proposition 456 asked voters to approve an additional 3 percent maintenance and operations increase, which would have brought in an additional $2 million, and raised property taxes for the owner of a $100,000 home in the district by an additional $25 per year.
Funding from the override would have been used primarily to pay for salary increases for teachers and support staff, and to maintain and expand the district’s focus on technology and digital learning tools.
