Baby Bobcat Drama in Oro Valley, ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥

  • Updated

Just after 6 a.m. in Oro Valley, Mo and Amy Goldman woke up to a loud bang in their backyard, followed by strange growling and whimpering. When they looked outside, they saw two bobcats facing off — already unusual enough. But then they spotted a skinny baby bobcat clinging to their screen door, three feet up. About ten feet away, a larger bobcat was staring it down, ready to pounce.

Moments later, the baby lost its grip and fell onto the patio, looking trapped. That’s when another adult bobcat — likely the mother — stepped between the baby and the larger cat, moving side to side to block it. The larger bobcat kept lunging forward, growling, while the baby scrambled under a grill to hide.

Then, as if the backyard needed more drama, two hawks swooped in, flying within a foot of the larger bobcat, seemingly trying to scare it off. After about five tense minutes, the big bobcat left. The mother stayed in the yard for nearly four hours until the baby finally came out. Limping slightly, she led it away.

It was the second bobcat surprise for the Goldmans — back in 2013, young bobcats were caught on video playing on their kids’ slide.

Just another wild morning in Southern ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥.
