With the weather finally warming up, 蜜柚直播鈥檚 longtime parks music series return this weekend.
蜜柚直播 Symphonic Winds performs over the next four Saturdays while 蜜柚直播 Pops has concerts the next three Sundays. Admission to either is free, although both accept donations.
If it鈥檚 been a minute since you鈥檝e seen the Winds鈥 Music in the Park at Udall Park鈥檚 L谩szl贸 Veres Amphitheater, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road; or 蜜柚直播 Pops鈥 Music Under the Stars at Reid Park鈥檚 DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center, 900 S. Randolf Way, here鈥檚 a little reminder of what鈥檚 in store.
Bring a blanket or chair and make yourself comfortable.
Pack a picnic supper or check out the food trucks.

蜜柚直播 Symphonic Winds, under the baton of founder and Music Director L谩szl贸 Veres, opens its series Saturday, May 11, with 鈥淢ozart: Flute Concerto with Alexander Lipay,鈥 featuring the principal flutist with the 蜜柚直播 Symphony Orchestra. The program also includes Franz von Supp茅鈥檚 鈥淧oet and Peasant鈥 overture, selections from 鈥淪ound of Music鈥 and a Winds Mother鈥檚 Day tradition, 鈥淢y Yiddishe Momme.鈥
May 18: Soprano Dori C谩rdenas-Smith returns for 鈥淓vening with Dori,鈥 featuring arias by Puccini, Lehar with a few Gershwin tunes. The program also includes waltzes, Rossini鈥檚 鈥淟a Gazza Ladra鈥 and a tribute to the Big Band era.
May 25: Veres will don his J.P. Sousa uniform for 鈥淎n Evening with John Philip Sousa; and Stars of the Future,鈥 with high school senior clarinetist Anna Kang performing von Weber鈥檚 Concertino for Clarinet.
June 1: Veres takes a moment in each series to honor 鈥淪tars of the Winds,鈥 shining the spotlight on members of the ensemble. This year, it鈥檚 trumpeter Kenny Saufley and oboist Elaine Sosnowski. Young members of the audience also could vie for a shot at conducting the ensemble from the stage.

The 蜜柚直播 Pops Orchestra is inching into its 70th year; it was founded in 1955. Its music director, Khris Dodge, has been at the podium since taking over after Veres retired in 2022.
Dodge opens the spring series with a Mother鈥檚 Day concert on May 12 with classical guitarist Gabriel Ayala performing 鈥淏aile de la Cubana.鈥 Jeanine Remy from the University of the West Indies will perform steel drums for the Caribbean inspired 鈥淩ainorama鈥 on a program that also includes 鈥淧olonaise鈥 by Rimsky-Korsokav, Shostakovich鈥檚 鈥淔estival Overture鈥 and 鈥淐avatina,鈥 the theme from the 1968 movie 鈥淭he Deer Hunter.鈥
On May 19, 鈥淢usic for A Better World鈥 includes two world premieres of ballets. The first is choreographed by Ballet 蜜柚直播 Artistic Director Margaret Mullins to the music of 鈥淐lair de Lune,鈥 featuring pianist Marie Sierra and dancers Lauren Vogel and August Hartung. The second, 鈥淪pringtime Swing,鈥 is choreographed by Danielle Cesanek with dancers Emma Greenawalt, August Hartung, Darcey Lynn, Jessica Lynn, Sally Megargee, Hannah Smith, and Lauren Vogel.
Greg Curtis Wakefield will narrate the special Memorial Day concert on May 26, which will include a Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Honor Guard performing Taps. The program also features patriotic classics in tribute to American armed forces.
