The Wildcats’ junior shortstop hit the go-ahead home run in ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s 7-5, series-clinching victory over BYU at Miller Park in Provo, Utah.

The homer was White’s second in as many days, his ninth of the season and the 38th round-tripper of his career. White trails former teammate Chase Davis by one for third place on ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s all-time home run list. Shelley Duncan is first with 55, and Brad Glenn is second with 43.

White went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs. The Salpointe Catholic High School product went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s 5-4 victory Friday.

ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ rebounded from a 12-5 loss Thursday to win its third straight series. The Wildcats improved to 28-11, 12-6 in the Big 12. The Cougars fell to 19-18, 6-12.

ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ and BYU were tied, 5-5, through six innings Saturday. White led off the top of the seventh with a solo homer to right. The Wildcats plated another run on Tommy Splaine’s single, which scored Garen Caulfield.

The biggest difference between Thursday’s loss and the two subsequent victories was the performance of ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s bullpen.

The Wildcats held a 5-4 lead entering the bottom of the seventh Thursday. But normally reliable relievers Casey Hintz and Garrett Hicks couldn’t hold it, allowing eight runs.

On Friday, Julian Tonghini and Tony Pluta were able to protect a one-read lead. The right-handers combined for four scoreless innings, with Pluta securing his league-leading eighth save.

Hunter Alberini and Hintz shut down the Cougars on Saturday. Alberini threw two scoreless innings to earn the win, and Hintz pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to notch his first save of the season.

Freshman starter Smith Bailey allowed two earned runs in five innings. Outfielders Aaron Walton and Gunner Geile each drove in a pair of runs.

ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ played without surging sophomore slugger Andrew Cain for the second and third games of the series after he was hit on the knee by a pitch Thursday.

The Wildcats could get star outfielder Brendan Summerhill (hand) back in some capacity for Wednesday’s home game vs. UT Arlington. ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ will be on the road again next weekend for a three-game series vs. Texas Tech.
