BOULDER, Colo. — Quarterback Khalil Tate rushed for 327 yards and accounted for five touchdowns as the ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Wildcats outlasted Colorado 45-42 on Saturday night at Folsom Field.
Tate’s rushing yards were the most ever by an ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ quarterback and the second most ever by a Wildcat behind Ka’Deem Carey’s 366, also against Colorado in 2012.
Tate’s rushing touchdowns covered 48, 28, 47 and 75 yards. The sophomore, who replaced the injured Brandon Dawkins in the first quarter, also completed 11 of 12 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown. None was bigger than his 8-yard pass to freshman tight end Bryce Wolma on third-and-4 late in the fourth quarter.
That play extended the drive, and Tate made sure Colorado wouldn’t get the ball back with a tackle-breaking 31-yard run on third-and-8. That was a good thing; the Buffaloes answered almost every punch the Wildcats threw, and ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s defense was spent.

ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ improved to 3-2, 1-1 in the Pac-12. Colorado fell to 3-3, 0-3.
Colorado’s Phillip Lindsay carried a school-record 41 times for 281 yards and three scores.
ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ hosts UCLA next Saturday.
THIRD-QUARTER UPDATE
BOULDER, Colo. – The ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Wildcats are 15 minutes away from upsetting Colorado behind the multipurpose magic of Khalil Tate.
The sophomore quarterback has accounted for four touchdowns and rushed for more than 200 yards as the Cats built a 35-21 lead over the Buffaloes through three quarters of their game at Folsom Field.
Tate, who replaced the injured Brandon Dawkins in the first quarter, has 215 rushing yards, becoming the first ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ quarterback to top 200. He has completed 9 of 10 passes for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Tate’s third TD run, a 47-yarder, gave ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ a 28-14 lead less than three minutes into the second half.
Colorado answered with another methodical scoring drive, capped by Steven Montez’s 7-yard touchdown pass to Bryce Bobo.
ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ came right back with another TD, this time on a 1-yard Zach Green run. Tate’s 28-yard run put the Wildcats in the red zone.
Colorado has the ball at the UA 10-yard line to start the fourth quarter.

The sophomore quarterback, who replaced the injured Brandon Dawkins in the first quarter, has accounted for three touchdowns as the ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Wildcats took a 21-14 lead over Colorado at halftime of their game Saturday night at Folsom Field.
Tate has rushed for two touchdowns and thrown for one. The TD runs went for 58 and 28 yards; he has 125 yards on five carries.
Tate has completed 6 of 7 passes for 53 yards. The lone incompletion was a drop.
Dawkins got hurt at the end of a short run on the opening possession when Colorado’s Isaiah Oliver and others drove him into the CU bench. The nature and extent of Dawkins’ injury is not known.
The Buffaloes’ best defense against Tate has been to keep the ball out of his hands.
Colorado’s second-quarter scoring drive took up more than half the period – 9 minutes and 34 seconds, to be exact. ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s possession time for the entire half was 9:13.
The Buffs completed only one pass on the methodical 19-play, 85-yard possession. Phillip Lindsay did most of the heavy lifting, carrying 13 times and finishing the drive with a 1-yard plunge. Lindsay has carried 22 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns.
ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ answered with a quick three-play, 68-yard TD drive. Tate started it with a 37-yard run and finished it with a 13-yard TD pass to Shun Brown.
ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ has sacked Colorado quarterback Steven Montez four times. The Wildcats’ previous season high was two.

But the bigger story is who scored those touchdowns for ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥.
Sophomore quarterback Khalil Tate, replacing a banged-up Brandon Dawkins, has both Wildcats TD, on runs of 58 and 28 yards.
Dawkins got driven into the Colorado bench at the end of a short run on ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s opening possession. He wobbled back to ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s sideline and hasn’t returned.
Tate, fully healthy for the first time since Week 1, has completed 3 of 3 passes for 31 yards. He has rushed three times for 88 yards.
Tate’s 58-yard run gave ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ a 7-0 lead. Colorado answered with 10-play, 75-yard drive, capped by Phillip Lindsay’s 5-yard TD run. The Wildcats responded with a 75-yard drive of their own, capped by Tate’s 28-yard run around left end.
Tonight marks the first time this season has scored two offensive touchdowns in the first quarter. They were also the Wildcats’ first touchdowns of any kind in the first quarter since the Sept. 2 opener vs. Northern ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥.
