As a member of the Pima County Board of Supervisors and someone who has spent my career advocating for affordable health care, civil rights, and good governance, I am proud to enthusiastically support Adelita Grijalva in her campaign to represent ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s 7th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives.
Adelita is no stranger to public service. She has built an impressive record over decades — first as a longtime member and president of the ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Unified School District Governing Board, and most recently as a colleague and chair of the Pima County Board of Supervisors. Her leadership has been consistently rooted in equity, compassion, and an unshakable commitment to the people she serves.
Adelita is not simply carrying on the work of her father, Congressman Raúl Grijalva, who served this district with distinction for more than 20 years. She is forging her own path — one built on a lifetime of public service, local action, smart policy, and deep relationships with communities across Southern ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥. She brings with her the insight that comes from governing at the local level, where decisions have immediate, tangible impacts on families, workers, and neighborhoods. Adelita has the expertise and fight we need in Washington and we need her now.

During our time working together on the Board of Supervisors, I’ve watched Adelita approach every issue — whether it’s public health, housing, criminal justice reform, or environmental protection — with thoughtful analysis and empathy. She’s a champion for underrepresented voices and doesn’t shy away from difficult conversations. Her leadership was particularly crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she advocated fiercely for vaccine access, especially for underserved and rural communities. She understands that good governance means showing up, listening, and delivering.
As a physician and openly gay elected official, I know how critical it is to have allies in public office who are not just supportive of the LGBTQ+ community, but who take real action. Adelita has been that kind of ally throughout her career. Whether it’s pushing for inclusive policies in schools and county government, standing up against transphobic legislation, or supporting mental health resources for LGBTQ+ youth, she has never wavered in her belief that every person — regardless of their identity, or who they love — deserves dignity, safety, and the same rights as everyone else. In this political moment, when LGBTQ+ rights are under increasing attack, her voice in Congress will be more vital than ever.
Adelita’s bilingual, bicultural background and lifelong connection to this region make her uniquely equipped to represent Southern ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ in Congress. She will bring not just the voice of our district, but its heart.
I know Adelita Grijalva will fight for working families, protect our environment, expand access to healthcare, and push for policies that reflect the inclusive, forward-thinking values of ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s 7th District. Her blend of policy expertise, grassroots connection, and personal integrity is exactly what we need at the federal level. As her colleague and friend, I know Adelita Grijalva to be principled, tireless, and compassionate. She’s earned our trust — and now she’s ready to take that leadership to the halls of Congress. I ask you to join me in supporting her campaign. We need her voice, her fight and her skills in Washington.
