The ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Citizen photographed the home of Betty Hazen in 1963. Hazen pitched in when the home was built. Adobe bricks were made with the top soil on the lot.

Porch and patio of the home look out over the surrounding valley with the Santa Rita mountains in the distance. Mesquite posts are used to support the roof which shelters the porch.

Third level wing of the home Mrs. Hazen built for her parents is shown here. The glassed in area above is the living room of the wing and from it one has a breathtaking view of the surrounding valley and the Santa Ritas in the distance.

Redwood board and batten outlines the third level wing of the entrance, front of which is shown here. An old ship's bell and triangle hang on a cross bar of mesquite at the entrance. Home is constructed of mud adobe made on the site.

Hardware on chests and cupboards is all hand forged in Mexico. Curtains in the second bedroom are in an oyster colored burlap. Bedroom doors of Douglas fir are all in sand-blasted finish.

Steps from the living room lead down to the dining area and the kitchen. Divider between kitchen and dining area is paneled in grass cloth. A bamboo matting is used as the ceiling in the kitchen.

Fireplace, designed and built by Mrs. Hazen, is fashioned of volcanic rock from around Arivaca. Gun on the wall to the let was brought from Guadalajara and the statue at the corner of the fireplace is the Virgin of the Castle from Spain. An antique chest in the fireplace corner was found by Mrs. Hazen in Santa Fe. Furniture in the living room is part pine and part mahogany.

Flagstones forming the hearth for the circular fireplace in the master bedroom were hand picked in northern ARizona. Carved headboard of the bed was done in Mrs. Hazen's own shop. Madonna in the wall niche is of carved wood.
